It is ceramic, golden or compound inlay made in the lab. Currently inlay-onlay is the best filling on the market. Here are some numbers which show inlay-onlay superiority over compound filling: traditional fillings decrease tooth maintenance about 50%, inlay-onlay strengthens the tooth even up to 75%. Average “vitality” of the filling is 7 years, inlay-onlay—10-30 years. Polimerazation contraction, hypersensibility, loss of smoothness, change of colour (ailments of traditional filling) do not exist in the inlay-onlay system. Cosmetics is perfect. For the posterior teeth (when the defect is more than 40% of the tooth surface) inlay-onlay is the best filling known.
